T-shirt Tuesday: “Octopus on a Bike” by Dark Cycle Clothing

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Dark Cycle Clothing is a husband and wife team from Tampa, Florida. Their Etsy shop is bursting with whimsical designs, mostly involving various animals riding bicycles. These include, but are not limited to: sharks, whales, Tyrannosauruses, giraffes, foxes, and, of course, octopuses.

All shirts are American Apparel super soft tees and are available in a wide range of sizes (from XS to XL) for $18.00 each.

The image above links to the Brown version of the shirt, but it is also availalble in Eggplant and Slate Grey. (If any of the links take you to sold out items, just go to the main page for the shop. There will be many others to choose from!)

They also have a design called “Octopus Corporate Man Explosion”…but I’ll save that for another time.

T-shirt Tuesday: “Octopus with a Bubble Gun Goes PEWPEW” by Shirt.Woot!

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

This is Mur, one of my best and oldest friends. She rocks.

Her awesome octopus shirt is available on Shirt.Woot! for $15.00. I’m not sure why we don’t give all octopuses bubble guns, because “PEWPEWPEWPEW” has got to be one of the greatest onomatopoeia of all time. Well, sure these newly weaponized cephalopods might rise up and try to invade the mainland…but that’s why we don’t give them REAL guns!

Mur is an author and podcaster extraordinaire. Among her plethora of creative ventures are the podcasts I Should Be Writing and Princess Scientist’s Book Club, and the novels Playing For Keeps and Heaven. She is also the new editor of Escape Pod, the science fiction podcast magazine.

Enter The Murverse for informaton on all these and more!

It’s been a while since we had a new cephalopod shirt from Threadless here on T-shirt Tuesday, and while I’m generally not a big fan of puns, this design is just so charming! Not only do we get a nice red octopus, but also a shark, eel, narwhal, and a plethora of cute little fish. Also, I can’t help but be reminded of this classic scene from Batman: The Movie!

“Plenty of Fish in the C” will run you $18 and comes in Creme in men’s, women’s sizes, and in White in kid’s and infant sizes. For two dollars more, you can even get this design on a onesie!

So far on T-shirt Tuesday, we’ve had Squid vs Whale, Squid vs Sailing Ship, Squid vs Hyena, and Squid vs Wienermobile. This recent offering by Shirt.Woot! adds Squid vs Noah’s Ark (and to a lesser extent, Squid vs Llama) to the list.

“And lo, it was awesome.”

The shirt is $15.00 and comes in Royal Blue in a full range of sizes.

I first saw mention of this shirt this morning over on Pharyngula. I was having trouble tracking down the actual product page, but, completely coincidentally, a reader provided the link in a recent comment. Thanks Skwid!

This charming squid design (looks like an Architeuthis to me!) is available in a variety of colors and styles. Pricing starts at $24.94 for short-sleeve tees.

When I saw this particular squid, I thought it seemed strangely familiar. I realized that I had seen a variation of this same illustration in the squid anatomy diagram over at HowStuffWorks.com. I’m not trying to call anyone out or anything…I just thought it was worth noting.

T-shirt Tuesday (Nerdcore Edition): “Giant Squid” hoodie by Gama-Go

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Last night I went out to Chapel Hill to see MC Frontalot perform at Local 506. The opening act was singer/songwriter Brandon Patton, who also plays bass for MC Frontalot under the pseudonym BL4k Lotus. It turns out Brandon is a fellow aficionado of squid shirts, and he was sporting this awesome Gama-Go hoodie featuring their classic giant squid design. (Not available anymore, sadly.)

Unfortunately, I only cought the tail end of Brandon’s set, but I did get there in time to hear his rousing cover of The Pogues “Sally MacLennane.” Check out Brandon’s music at www.brandonpatton.com.

The MC Frontalot set was, as usual, nerdcore perfection. His brand new album Zero Day officially came out today, and you should buy it! With money! Go to Frontalot.com to find out how.

If you are not familiar with Front’s brand of intelligent, geeky hip hop, here is a video I took this February at his previous local show. The song is “Bizarro Genius Baby” from his second album Secrects From The Future.

T-shirt Tuesday: “Squid Liberty” by Gama-Go

“Give me your tentacled, your beaked
Your writhing masses yearning to break free,
The eldrich recluse at your teeming shore,
Send these, of head-foot, sucker-hook to me
I lift my lamp, you lift your photophore!”
(with apologies to Emma Lazarus)

This poem is dedicated to Gama-Go, the Official Clothier of the Coming Cepalopocalypse.

“Squid Liberty” is $28, and it is available in Navy and Army. (But not Coast Guard, for some reason…)
