An important message

Even though we focus almost exclusively on marine cephalopods here at Indie Squid Kid, I would like to take a moment to bring your attention to the plight of the critically endangered Octopus paxarbolis—the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus. These solitary and elusive creatures are native to the temperate rainforests of the Olympic Peninsula, where the moist environment allows for a partially terrestrial lifestyle. O. paxarbolis returns to the sea during mating season, but in recent years their habitat has been compromised by logging for suburban development, severing access to their ancestral breeding waters in Puget Sound.
Visit http://zapatopi.net/treeoctopus/ for more information on the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus and the ongoing effort to save this unique species from extinction.
