Hey there! It’s the first post of 2011, and what better way is there to kick off a new year than with a new Threadless shirt? Here we have a grizzled and scarred mariner somberly reflecting on the Kraken that destroyed his ship…that or it’s not tobacco in that pipe!

Also, while I’m here, I thought I should mention that the last Threadless shirt I featured–“Quick! Disguise!”–is currently on sale for a mere $10!

Tumblr Spotlight: Laughing Squid

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Laughing Squid is more than just a web host, it is also on the front lines of culture and art. Their tentacles touch many parts of the Internet, including Tumblr. Here is a sampling of some recent cool content from http://links.laughingsquid.com:

Happy Halloween from Indie Squid Kid and the Addams Family!

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

(via grottu, via fymorticiaaddams)

Sorry for the lack of posts these past few weeks. My life has been rather hectic of late, with job interviews, Halloween preparation, and far too many side projects. I’ll working on getting things back on track…answering emails, responding to comments, and (*gasp*) making new posts. If you’ve contacted me recently, and I haven’t replied yet, I promise I WILL get back to you soon!

In the mean time, I hope everyone had a good Halloween! If anyone has any photos of cephalopod costumes or jack-o-lanterns, they’d like to share, please send them (or links to them) to indiesquidkid@gmail.com.

T-shirt Tuesday: “Late Again” from TeeFury

design by Redic

There are so many awesome things going on on this shirt, that I almost don’t know where to start! Given the nature of this blog, however, it’s only logical to begin with the giant octopus.

It is wearing a tiny hat!

It is brandishing a revolver!

IT IS FIGHTING VIKINGS!!!

Compared to that, the firing cannons, the anaconda, the mime juggling flaming chainsaws, and Napoleon’s ghost—all aboard a jet-powered double-decker bus that is being driven by a robot—all seem rather ho-hum.

As was the case with the TeeFury shirt I featured back in July, this particular shirt is no longer for sale on TeeFury.com. It was offered on, and only on, September 10, 2010, so we just missed it.

Octopus Awareness Day: three Tumblr blogs you need know

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

I’m starting to think there might be an Octopus Day curse, at least as far as this blog is concerned. As I write this, it is 11:11 (make a wish!), so it still counts, right? (Of course, who knows what time it will be when I finally click “Publish.”)

One of my goals for this blog is to maintain the most comprehensive list of cephalopod-focused (or at lest ceph-friendly) blogs possible. Over the past year, I’ve encountered a veritable shoal of Tumblr blogs dedicated to our tentacled friends, and here are three must-subscribes for any octopus enthusiast. I’ve included a sampling of recent content from each blog, and you can click on the images to see the original posts.
