T-shirt Tuesday: “Prairie Squid” from TeeFury

Is there any kind of vehicle or animal that doesn’t look better with a giant squid wrapped around it? I’m pretty sure the answer is “NO.”

Sadly, this shirt is not for sale anymore…unless you have a time machine that can take you back to 2/15/2009. TeeFury.com sells a new shirt every day for the low, low price of $9…FOR ONE DAY ONLY. (The site’s tag line is “Tee today, gone tomorrow.”) This is similar to the Shirt.Woot! model, although Woot generally makes old designs available again for a slightly increased price.

If anyone out there has this shirt and would like to submit a photo of yourself or a willing vicitim wearing it, please send said photo via electronic mail to indiesquidkid@gmail.com. For that matter, if anyone out there has anything cephalopod related they’d like to see featured on the blog, send me a photo, and I’ll see what I can do. (I have an in with the editor.)

Best Friends Forever by Lucy Knisley

I didn’t plan to go silent for an entire week, but I was on vacation and just didn’t have time to prepare any posts in advance.

I’ve got a handful of cool sightings and submissions that came in while I was offline, and I’ll be focusing on those throughout the week. Stay tuned!

Happy Fourth of July!

Today we took Kid Indie Squid Kid to (and participated in) his first Independence Day parade.

Fun was had! Flags were waved! Fire trucks were seen! Dogs were pointed at!

Sightings: The Squid and the Rail

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Southern Rail is a restaurant smack dab in the middle of Carrboro, North Carolina. It is built in and between three converted train cars, and it is located right next to an active rail line. As you might expect, much of the decor is railroad-themed, which is why it’s so surprising to come face-to-face with a mural depicting a diver locked in mortal combat with a giant squid! The mural adorns a wall of the narrow corridor in one of the converted cars (you’ll see it on the way to the restroom)…so narrow that it was pretty much impossible to get a good shot of the entire thing.

While Giant Squid is not on the menu, they do serve the most delicious tater tots known to Man and Mollusc alike.
